What is LSVT BIG?
LSVT BIG is an intensive, evidence-based physical therapy program designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions.
When you have Parkinson’s disease, the brain sends smaller signals to your muscles. This can make your movements feel normal to you, but look slow and small to others, leading to a shorter stride when walking, a rounded posture, or trouble with daily tasks like getting out of a chair or buttoning a shirt.
LSVT BIG retrains your brain to reset its internal “volume knob.” By focusing on one simple target, moving BIG, the program helps you override those small signals, letting you move more normally and with much greater confidence.
How It Works
The program is structured and intensive to maximize neuroplasticity (the brain’s ability to rewire and heal itself). It consists of:
- 4 days a week for 4 consecutive weeks
- 60-minute individual, one-on-one sessions
- Daily home practice to lock in your progress
Instead of learning a hundred different small exercises, you will practice large-amplitude, whole-body movements that translate directly into your everyday life.
The Benefits
By training your body to use bigger movements, LSVT BIG helps you:
- Walk faster with a longer, safer stride
- Improve your balance and reduce your risk of falls
- Get up easier from deep chairs, couches, or cars
- Improve your posture and trunk rotation
- Maintain your independence with daily tasks like dressing and grooming
No matter where you are in your journey, LSVT BIG empowers you to take control of your mobility and keep moving forward.
