At Boston Brain Center, we believe that neurological rehabilitation should never be a “one-size-fits-all” approach. For patients recovering from life-altering injuries or living with chronic neurological conditions, the journey to regain mobility can feel like an uphill battle. That is why we have integrated the Hocoma Lokomat®, the world’s leading robotic gait training system, into our specialized rehabilitation programs. By combining cutting-edge robotics with a patient-centered philosophy, we are helping our community walk toward a more independent future.

What is the Lokomat?

The Lokomat is a sophisticated robotic exoskeleton used in combination with a treadmill and a dynamic body-weight support system. Unlike traditional physical therapy, where a therapist must manually move a patient’s limbs, the Lokomat provides precise, robotic-assisted movement that mimics a natural, physiological walking pattern.

How It Works

Body-Weight Support: Patients are secured in a comfortable harness that supports their weight, reducing the strain on joints and allowing those with severe weakness to stand and move. Robotic Guidance: The exoskeleton is adjusted to the patient’s specific measurements. It guides the legs through a perfectly timed walking cycle, ensuring every step is biomechanically correct.
